Northern Michigan family photography
How I LOVE Fall in Northern Michigan! Pure Michigan at its finest. I have always been a color guy. Colors to me are the spice of life. Without color you miss half of life. Glen Lake Glen Arbor family photography vrbo rental house session with Paul Retherford Photography.
The Leelanau Peninsula area in Northern Michigan is the summertime paradise to thousands of vacations from all over the World.
People are drawn to this area for many reasons. The first is that the Sleeping Bear Dunes are located there. In addition, the beaches are mostly soft and sandy from the dunes. Lastly, Traverse City is a hopping place in the Summer.
This family wanted fall color for their Christmas cards.
They invited me out to their VRBO rental house on Glen Lake to make some beautiful images.
It is a windy day and the rains are coming.
We start indoors with a few but quickly moved to the outdoor locations to capture the fall colors as they wished.
The wind off of the lake was pushing 30 knots.
Luckily, the trees cut the winds for us.
We take a small walk around the neighborhood and get color, reflections, cool textures, waterfront, and more.
What a wonderful family session just prior to them departing back to the real World.
You may see one of these images in your mailbox this year!
Enjoy your Christmas and Holidays!

Williamston Michigan Wedding venue
Do you want a Michigan barn Wedding? Well, do I have a place for you. Rustic, but well kept, beautiful but aged. RaOna Acres in Williamston, Michigan is the place to be. RaOna Acres Wedding Photography Williamston Michigan photographer Paul Retherford.
RaOna acres has an entire farm house available for the Bride and her bridesmaids to get ready.
There is also a finished room below the Wedding ceremony location for the groomsmen to prepare.
The ceremony and reception locations are a very short walk away from each other.
In addition, the parking lot is within a stone throw from both locations.
Art in Bloom is the florist for the day. Their work is amazing and adds a nice color pop to the rustic theme.
I meet the Bride just prior to her getting into her Wedding dress.
Borrowed and Blue Weddings does a really nice job on all of the Wedding hair and makeup.
We design a few cool Wedding dress images with her Sincerity Wedding gown. Afterward, we set up a first look with the Bridesmaids first, then dad, and finally the Groom.
I launch the drone to do some imagery from above of the first look.
The first look location lies behind the largest white barn on a cracked concrete pad that has grass growing within the cracks.
The design from above is like nothing else. So cool!
Following the first look we make a bunch of Bride/Groom images and most of the Wedding party images prior to guests showing up.
RaOna Acres barn Wedding ceremony
Guests are all ushered to the ceremony location in the upstairs of the barn.
The upstairs is handicap accessible.
The wood structure is all exposed in the barns. Love the look and feel. The texture from the beams is amazing.
Following the short, lovely Wedding ceremony, the guests all walk over to another barn where the cocktails and reception are located.
There is a dedicated restroom and smoking area at Raona Acres too.

CKJ Entertainment is the DJ for the evening.

Saginaw Club Photography
Beautiful couple, family, and Wedding day in Saginaw, Michigan! Jenny and Dan are just a pleasure to work with. This Wedding is a lunch Wedding so most of the images are morning light. See the difference in the feel of the light? Saginaw Club Wedding Photography Saginaw Michigan Photographer Paul Retherford Photography.
The Saginaw Club in Saginaw, Michigan is a private members only club that originated in 1889. The wood craftsmanship is unbelievable. Every piece of wood on the interior is hand-made.
Talking to a woodworker at the Wedding, he was amazed at the spindle, ceiling, and wall wood designs.
I meet Jenny and Dan at the Montague Inn just down the street from the Saginaw Club.
Isn’t Jenny gorgeous! I adore the hair piece and the makeup by LC make-up artistry.
The floral bouquet by Gaudreau Florist is perfect too.
They are ready for their first look to begin.
The Montague Inn is a historic inn along the river with a HUGE yard and plot of land.
In addition, the old-growth trees are pretty amazing.
We make images around the Montague Inn and then on the way to the Saginaw Club.
The families all meet at the Saginaw Club.
All of the family images are made on the first floor prior to heading upstairs.
The posed photography is done prior to the beginning of the Wedding ceremony.
Saginaw Club Wedding ceremony
Reverend Jen Adams is the officiant for the Wedding ceremony.
Her ceremony is absolutely delightful.
She is so charismatic.
Although the Wedding ceremony location feels a bit tight, there is ample room for everyone.
The Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra plays string instruments for the Wedding ceremony.
Following the Wedding ceremony, everyone heads up to the second floor for cocktail hour.
Wedding reception Saginaw Club
The reception location is another example of the historic venue. The long room with a big bar on one end and a wood floor throughout works perfectly for Weddings.
There is an elevator to transport people or a large staircase to walk up.
The ballroom has a round room in the corner and a little knockout stage area where the bride and groom sat in the middle.
There are toasts, dancing, singing, and feasting.
Dessert donut table provided by Hamilton Home Bakery. Yum!

Did I mention that this is a lunch Wedding too.
It is absolutely stunning Wedding that is simple but elegant.
Here is a small selection of images from the eight hours that I am with them. Enjoy!
